Alexin LLC located in Bluffton, Indiana is a new producer of high quality cost effective, eco-friendly aluminum ingots. The ingots are cast from recycled aluminum and supplied mainly to the extrusion industry.
D&D Automation Inc. was contacted by Alexin to assist key equipment vendors with the start-up of their green field facility.
The gantry crane forms cast logs into layers and then stacks the layers for homogenizing, the stacks are then sent to the saw room which cuts the logs to customer ordered size.
With a majority of the program working and functional, D&D’s main tasks were to optimize cycle time and integrate the complex program with the HMI to create a user friendly interface. Training was also provided to support Alexin operators.
The technologies used during this project included: Rockwell CNTL Logix 1756-L61 processors, Factorytalk view stations and many PowerFlex 40, 70, 700 drives.
As a result of D&D’s input with this project great strides were taken to optimize the saw room, improving cycle time and meeting customer demands.
For both the gantry crane and the saw room the HMIs were greatly improved to allow for more operator control, better usability, and quicker troubleshooting. A solid improvement in process UpTime was achieved.
