Advanced Dynamics and EPCM Services Ltd., teamed up for a mining project in Chile. The project included support, training and startup of 2 identical copper stripping machines. D&D was brought into the project to provide technical assistance to the consortium and add their long history of experience in these mining applications.
D&D’s involvement included programming and trouble shooting of 2 labeler/scanners with the use of MicroScan software and Hyperlink. D&D also used Modicon Concept software to develop the program in the PLC that controls the main function of the machine. D&D made modifications to the sequence of logic on 25+ stations, which improved the part tracking system in order for the product quality to be tracked and the correct processes to be applied.
The training aspect of the project had the plant workers shadowing the D&D team while they explained the basics of the Quantum PLC and its modules, including a Profibus distribute I/O System.
D&D made a significant improvement to the system with the design and implementation of a data monitoring system that could calculate the speed and theoretical flow rate of each movement.
D&D was able to provide the customer with a functioning machine, with a data logging system that can be used to track down problem areas, as well as, see what processes are falling into cycle time specifications.
During D&D’s time in Chile, the equipment uptime was greatly improved; cycle times were brought back to specification and a continuous support team as been trained to maintain the machines at peak levels.
