D&D Automation Inc. was hired by Siemens Water Technologies to assist on a project at Red Stripe Brewery in Kingston, Jamaica. D&D was brought in to commission a Reverse Osmosis system provided by Siemens Water and integrate it into ax existing RO treatment facility at Red Stripe Brewery.
The "off the shelf" system was already tested at a Siemens facility in Colorado so the PLC and HMI were already done and all the instruments were calibrated and tested. Once onsite D&D discovered that there was a new tank and pump added to the scope of work. After some discussion with the customer it was decided that D&D would go ahead and add this to the system. This involved updating the electrical drawings, process drawings, as well as other documentation and the PLC and HMI code.
The main technologies used during this project was Siemens S7 300.
D&D seamlessly integrated the Siemens system into the plant and added the new tank and pump. The RO plant was running 24 hr production and in fact was within quality in less then a day. All the drawings and documentation were updated and sent back to the customer and were also distributed to Red Stripe for training purposes.
Obviously working in Jamaica was interesting, they have a pretty laid back approach to work but progress does not suffer. The system was outdoors which was also interesting as the panels and all equipment was rated for the hot environment and to withstand driving rains.
